Okay, so you've got a couple of things that glow here: the eyebeam and the phoenix. They really don't feel like they're glowing, though. The phoenix looks like a painting on some wall, and the eyebeam almost looks like a big red tape.
When you have things that give off light, you have to show how the light interacts with the surroundings. For example, the character shooting the eyebeam (sorry, I'm not familiar with these characters)? He'd look much better if you added some red highlights on him. And the girl in front of the phoenix? I think she would look much more dramatic like this. Forgive the quick, crappy sketch, but note how you can tell there's something fiery behind her, even though I didn't draw the phoenix in.
